Senior Capstone Project 2 / Semester 1/2021

Abstract:

In this project we are going to present you with a wheelchair that is able to interact with users just with the user’s hand gesture and also the wheelchair will be able to maneuver through obstacles. We are going to use both ways to create a safe and a wheelchair that with limited body movement. When developing applications for older people, it is important to take into account their declining physical abilities. For this purpose, gesture based application that allow for direct manipulations can be useful, as they provide natural and intuitive interactions. To bring this project alive we are going to use four main different components are: 1) Hand Gesture Using Gloves, 2) Raspberry Pi (for image processing to give environment information), 3) Arduino nano(for the wheel controls), 4) Wheelchair. To summarize the steps, the wheelchair will be controlled by the command that the Hand Gesture gathers from the user and data will send via Bluetooth to the Arduino and if the camera does not detect any object alongside wheelchair’s direction then the Arduino will start to move the motor.
